The Dragunov Sniper Rifle (formally Russian : Снайперская винтовка Драгунова, Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova (SVD), literally "Dragunov's sniper rifle") is a semi-automatic sniper rifle/designated marksman rifle chambered in 7.62×54mmR and developed in the Soviet Union. Optics commonly include a PSO-1 4x fixed-power scope that doubles as a passive infra-red detector.
The Dragunov is heavily used by Russian forces as well as other Third World armies due to its low cost and mass producibility. It was designed by Yevgeny Dragunov and manufactured by Izhmash.

The SVD is commonly used by Rico as one of her primary firearms (her other fire arms include the IMI Micro Galil and the Rheinmetall MG3). However the version used by Rico in the Manga changes as the series progresses. At first she uses the Russian SVD, but later on she is seen using the Chinese copy, designated the NDM-86 (also EM 351). The differences lie in the slight design variation of the rear dust cover, retention of the lighting cuts in the receiver, and the enlarged eye piece on the scope (also a copy of the Russian version designated the Type JJJ). In all other aspects the rifles are identical and interchangeable.
